After yesterday’s post about the best bug spray ever, I realized I had not posted about my Itch Away roll on! This was actually my very first essential oil blend I ever used. A week after receiving my PSK (premium starter kit), I had a flare up of a recurring condition. I was itchy and in some pain and so desperately trying to avoid the months-long recovery I dealt with during my first flare up.
I was very new to essential oils, so I relied on my handy-dandy pocket reference and the wonderful Simply Natural Facebook group as resources. Not only did the blend reduce the itching/pain from that flare up, it’s now a staple in my oily medicine cabinet. Any time I have a minor skin irritation(bug bites, rash, contact dermatitis, etcetera), I pull out my new roller blend!
Here’s my recipe:
Itch Away Roller Blend
10 drops tea tree essential oil
10 drops lavender essential oil
20 drops fractionated coconut oil

Use a small metal funnel to pour all ingredients into the roller bottle. Now you’ve got a great remedy ready to go whenever you need it!
I love the outdoors. I love camping, hiking, swimming, canoeing, backpacking, laying around in the hammock by the lake…you get the idea. 🙂
However, my love of the outdoors often seems like a one-sided love affair. As much as I love being outside, at this time of year, I can walk out in the yard to let my dog out and come back in with ten mosquito bites. 😦 Not cool.
So, my husband and I went on our first backpacking trip this spring. I wanted to enjoy the trip AND come home without looking like I had a bad case of the chicken pox. However, I also wanted to avoid those chemical-laden sprays I had relied on in the past. I started researching DIY solutions, and found several that looked good.
had the most information about what works and why, so I used many of the same ingredients they did, but with my own twist. I was a little concerned about coming home with 30+ bug bites(which is what usually happens), but I brought my homemade spray and only had FIVE bug bites when we got back! FIVE! I usually get more walking out to pick up the mail!
I’m so excited to have a safe, all natural solution that I wanted to share my recipe with you all!
This recipe will make a 2 ounce bottle of spray. You need:
- 15 drops of Purification essential oil blend
- 10 drops of Thieves essential oil blend
- 5 drops of peppermint essential oil
- Want to more about what essential oils I use? Click here to learn more!
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (Vanillin makes the spray last longer!)
- a little less than an ounce of witch hazel or rubbing alcohol
- a little less than an ounce of fractionated coconut oil (Also increases the protection time of the essential oil blend.)
- 2 oz dark glass bottle and spray top
- small metal funnel for pouring
Combine all ingredients into the small glass bottle. I used a measuring shot glass for the coconut oil and rubbing alcohol, and then just counted the drops of essential oils that I dropped into the funnel. Cap the bottle once you’ve added all of the ingredients, and then roll the bottle gently on its side to mix.
That’s it! Let me know how it works for you! Happy Oiling!
Since I started using essential oils, I have been so excited about how wonderful they are that I talk about them(a lot)! Since both my mother and Mother-In-Law have been listening to me wax rhapsodic about how much I love my Young Living Oils, I decided to share my love of oils with them in their Mother’s Day presents this year!
On a trip last month, I introduced my mom to lavender essential oil. It’s a rock star oil! Lavender is great for so many things.
I use lavender daily. I diffuse it, I use it for my LLP allergy bomb(more on that in another post!), and in my homemade skin care products. It is gentle enough that it can be used neat, or without a carrier oil.
So – my mom (now) loves lavender too, and asked that I get her some “oily” stuff for Mothers Day. I was so excited that she wants to learn more about oils, I decided to gift her some homemade products to show her how easy it is to use lavender!
I made lotion bars, relaxing bath salts, and rejuvenating facial oil to share my moms. I found this website called canva
and made cute little instruction sheets to go with each. Click here
to see my easy peasy printables! For the labels, I just used some dissolvable mason jar labels with a bright marker.

I hope they enjoy their gifts as much as I enjoyed making them! I’ll post my recipes for each of the gifts soon. 🙂 Happy oiling everyone!
